A Silly, exciting thing to cry about

My son is a food stuffer.  I know its Sensory....maybe a a bit behavioral at this point.  So if you have been following me on Facebook you can see that Frankie has been having behavioral problems since he has been back to school.  They add 5 kids to his class......and Frankie doesn't like change or attention taken away from him....so he regresses behaviorally.  Lots on my mind, so much bothering me, wondering what I can do.

So my little stuffer is sitting at the table with a paper plate, 3 pretzels and a cereal bar.  I am watching to make sure he breaths as he shoves the entire cereal bar in his mouth and then something happens.  He takes a bite and put it down...... "take a bite and put it down like Andrea says"  he repeats after every bite.  Maybe silly, but I cried.....that it all it takes.  He took nibbles of pretzel and put it down and waited.  Who was this kid???

Well....it was great.

Here is an "I Hate Autism" kind of Post

I hate Autism because its causes me even more difficulty getting a 3 year old to eat.  There are days I want to throw my hands up and tell him to starve.  I throw enough food out in a week to feed a Family of 4.

God forbid I run out of chicken nuggets (like I did today)  my son won't eat.  He will eat about 1/2 a cup of vegetables and scream for an hour over the thought of eating something as Insane as a Hot dog.  From a therapy standpoint I should ignore the behavior or just keep at it till he eats, but we forget that Daddy is not home at dinner time and the one year old in the high chair will start chiming in the minute the boy starts screaming.

Nothing is more awesome then a 3 year old and a one year old screaming in harmony!  SO he ate some vegetables after practically vomiting up the finger nail size piece of hot dog and then i dismissed him because I cant handle the screaming and throwing yourself off a chair thing anymore.

Little Miss Piggy calmed down and ate her dinner, plus Frankies hot dog and his vegetables......

To Tobay......or To Bay? The Beach!

I live on Long Island, and being from here you encounter many off named towns and such.  I live in Massapequa Park.....can you say that,  a village inside the Town of Oyster Bay.    Its a native American Group I'm told. We rent, I could never afford to buy here, but honestly, I would stay in this apartment forever if It meant I could stay in Massapequa Park.  In regards to the funny names, I live a few towns over west is Wantagh and to the east Copaige , Setauket, Ronkonkoma and some other names you can only pronounce correctly if you live here.  Which brings me to Tobay.

Tobay is a small beach directly south of our house, which takes forever to get to because you have to drive west, then south and then east because that is the only route.  It has 2 restaurants a spray park, access to both the bay and the Atlantic Ocean and tons of Little fish and crabs for kids to collect.   Its actually about a Mile from Gilgo beach.....you know the one where they found 10 dead bodies, mostly prostitutes.....splendid.  Hasn't seemed to effect anything, still don't know who killed them all.  I asked my husband this morning if he thinks Tobay got the name because someone messed up a sign and it meant to say "TO Bay".....considering its a BAY beach this can be the only answer.  I don't think there was a native American tribe called the TOBAYS.

We got to Tobay Beach at 9:30 am, tide was out beach was empty....PERFECT!  We had brunch, which was basically just wraps from 7-11 and the kids got ready to run around.  Now this time last year my son was still scared of sand and not big into water.  He would tip toe on the sand and either cry or whine the entire time.  He would only sit in the water if he was on top of me........pardon my physical appearance in this picture I was about 7 months pregnant :)  But yea, he would sit on me like that and make me dig, make me do everything.

Fast Forward a year and my child is dumping sand on his own head.....as well as his sisters.  He is also running full force into the bay.  Today he went out so far that i had to get my husband in the water to go get him because he wouldn't listen to us and get his butt back to shallower water.  I mean honestly the water does not get very deep but i had visions of him tripping.  I can only think that making him touch weird things and making him walk on sand and grass etc. payed off.  At the time it seemed harsh to make him uncomfortable, but to see how happy he is now, its all worth it.

Allow me to re-introduce myself my name is.......Mom

My name is Mom......Neurotypical Mom. The Mother of a soon to be 3 year old son on the spectrum and a (so far) NT 9 month old daughter. The Wife to a wonderfully different husband, who after much research, we believe is also on the spectrum.

Life has not been easy, but I dont think its suppose to be. Everyday is something new, good and bad. Even with the struggles, I would never change a thing......this is our life, this is our story.

I love you all.....
